Aloe is a type of monocot succulent widely used as a soothing ingredient. In the Scriptures, this "finest of balms" (Song of Songs) appears in the context of joy, righteousness, and physical closeness. In the Book of Psalms, we read that God anoints the bodies of those who love justice with the oil of gladness, which includes aloe.
